Eddie Van Halen declared Top Guitarist!

Eddie
Guitar World Magazine has made it official: Eddie Van Halen is the greatest guitarist of all time. The recent "100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time" issue released earlier this week comprised a list of your favorite shredders by collecting almost 500,000 votes in a tournament style poll. The final round pitted him against Queen's Brian May, who only claimed 37.52% of the votes.

Here are the top ten guitarists of all time according to Guitar World and your votes.

1. Eddie Van Halen

2. Brian May

3. Alex Lifeson

4. Jimi Hendrix

5. Joe Satriani

6. Jimmy Page

7. Tony Iommi

8. Steve Ray Vaughan

9. Dimebag Darrell Abbott

10. Steve Vai

EVH is the king
Who's infuenced more people to pick up a guitar, including man famous musicians who are successful to this day, than EVH. If it weren't for him, we might all be listening to disco now. He came along when Saturday Night Fever ad Studio 54 were it and he blew everyone's doors off. The rest is history. Yes, SRV and George Lynch were and are incredible players, but there's no chance they've had as much impact on rock music as EVH has.

FULLIE
EVH has done more for R'n'R guitar than Clapton or SRV or Yngwie. Rhodes admitted in a Guitar World interview that if it wasn't for EVH, he would NEVER have played the way he did. Dime Bag, along with Wylde and Slash, have admitted the same. An honorable mention would be Robbie McIntosh. He blows Clapton away, truuust me. The only complaint I have about this pole is the title. It should say "Greatest Rock 'n' Roll Guitarist". If we're going with Greatest All Around Guitarist, EVH needs to step aside for players like Michael Hedges, Andres Segovia and Tommy Emmanuel.

TOTALLY AGREE!!
EVH is the best ROCK guitarist. How can you argue that!?! He's influenced soooo many players, along with influencing the whole guitar industry with the way certain guitars are built, modeled, cosmetics, the way his pick ups are wound and installed, etc etc. I like Robbie McIntosh as well, but where's Chuck Berry? Where's Angus Young? Where's Pete Townsend? I know it says "100 Greatest Guitarists", but these guys should be up there in the top 10, not Steve Vai or Joe Satriani (who are EVH clones anyway). Great point about the title of this contest. It should be about technique most importantly. Classical Guitar players like Andres Segovia and Christopher Parkening, and Fingerstyle guitarists like Doyle Dykes, Michael Hedges, Laurence Juber, Tommy Emmanuel and Isato Nakagowa, and Flamenco players like Paco DeLucia blow ALL of these Rock players out of the water technique-wise.

wake up
I'm the biggest EVH fan around, but give credit where it's due: Vai is also a true musician. He jammed with Edward way back when, and his style shows how he continues to grow in all directions, even past his genius instructor, Joe S.
