LOWELL, Mass. (AP) ÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂàAn intense fire ravaged a three-story apartment building before dawn Thursday, killing four adults and three children, forcing tenants to jump or hand their children to safety, and leading to dramatic rescues from upper floors. The victims in this former mill city about 25 miles northwest of Boston were all found in units on the top floor of the building, which had a liquor store on the ground floor and apartments on the upper floors, fire officials said. This event is led by MA Chapter President, Seth Rotberg, who has interacted and overcome the adversity of this terrible disease by coping with his motherÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs diagnosis for over 10 years. This has personally impacted his life since he too is also at risk since it is a genetic disease.
HuntingtonÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs Disease (HD) is a fatal genetic disorder that causes the progressive breakdown of nerve cells in the brain. It deteriorates a personÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs physical and mental abilities during their prime working years and has no cure.
HD is known as the quintessential family disease because every child of a parent with HD has a 50/50 chance of carrying the faulty gene. Today, there are 30,000 symptomatic Americans and more than 200,000 at-risk of inheriting the disease.
The HuntingtonÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs Disease Society of America is the premier not-for-profit organization dedicated to improving the lives of everyone affected by HuntingtonÃÂâÃÂÃÂÃÂÃÂs disease. For more information click here
