Who Is Kenny Aronoff And Who Hasn't He Played Drums For?

There is a very good chance you've heard Kenny Aaronoff's drumming.  If you go to his website you'll find this astounding fact: He has played on over 60 Grammy-nominated recordings, with 1,300 gold, platinum, and diamond certified records and sold over 300 million records worldwide.  If you have a few minutes(or hours) you will also find a list of artists he's played with live and in the studio.  I'll just name a few here: Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Bob Dylan, Bruce Springsteen, Bob Seger, Ray Charles, John Fogerty, Smashing Pumpkins, Katy Perry, Johnny Cash, Bon Jovi, Cinderella, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and on and on and on...

You may have first heard his playing on a little song from some guy from Indiana named John Cougar:

Yeah, that's him at the 2:30 mark kicking it into the stratosphere.

He's done pretty well for a local boy from Stockbridge, MA who graduated from The University Of Massachusetts.  Now you can see him in a new documentary about unsung session musicians called Hired Gun.  It will be shown in theaters on June 29 and you can find a screening near you here.

Check out the trailer:

I had a chance to talk to Kenny on a rare day at home in California.  We discuss his upbrining in Western Massachusetts and what inspired him to take up the drums, what his keys to staying succesful are, and who was the most difficult artist he's had to work with.  Before you listen there is a NSFW warning.  Kenny swears like a motherf****!
