U2 Pays Tribute To The Ramones On Night #4

March 6, 2009

A Great version of "Beautiful Day" and a lovely tribute to New York's own Ramones. Bono does a great job fitting in the local references in the middle of the song and a bit of "Rock N Roll High School" on the way out. But the little bit of The Ramone's nugget "I Remember You" at the very end was very moving. U2 have always made sure they paid their respects to the ones who blazed the trail before them. I remember seeing them at the Hartford Civic Center during the Joshua Tree tour and they worked John Lennon, Bob Marley, Joy Division, and Bob Dylan into there songs. But I'm sure the Ramones hold a special place in U2's hearts, not only because of their groundbreaking music, but the fact that Joey Ramone was always a big supporter and  left this world listening to their album "All That You Can't Leave Behind".
