Can you believe it's been 9 years already? I can't! I was on the air at night back then, and I got a call from the diner next to the fire... I heard the alarms that firefighters were lost inside... It's not a good sound. 9 years ago tonight, we lost 6 very brave men... and if they had it to do all over again, they would! That's the job. We always hear about 'Homeland Security', and 'First Responders'... Well, 9 years ago tonight, we lost 6 of the best! On the bright side, 9 years ago, Denis Leary started his Fire Fighter Foundation... He's done so much good, both here in Massachusetss and around the country. Denis along with his staff, and your donations, has done things that they shouldn't have to do... Things that should already be taken care of with our tax dollars. In this time of economic panic... Just remember who's lives are on the line the next time a fire starts! It's you that they are protecting, so why cut the funding to the people that protect you? I cannot believe how much time has passed since that horrible night. I was 10 and remember it like it was yesterday, and it really hit home, I live 10 minutes from Worcester and my father used to be a firefighter. I visited the sight 2 days after and it was absolutly devastating, they hadnt found the guys yet. I wrote letters reaching out my sympathies to the fire department and the families. My father and I attended every Leary hockey game and donated what we could to help out. Here I am 19, and it still hits me, I attend a college where its mostly Fire fighters, and I just recently dated one of the sons of one of the fallen 6 and it made me think about it even more and try to become more active in helping their foundation. The 6 and their families truly are my heros. I have ALOT more appreciation for the men and woman laying their lives on the line to save us. I have such a profound respect for firefighters and other civil serviceman/woman all over. RIP Paul Brotherton, Josph McGuirk,Thomas Spencer, Jeremiah Lucy, and Jay Lyons, watch over us
