After Foo Fighters Rock-N-Roll Domination(or Damnation) of the Grammys last Sunday Dave Grohl has decided to take a much needed break for a year to sit on the beach in Maui and get his hair cornrowed....yeah right. I believe, much like my boss, Dave Grohl has cloned himself 5 times so he can be everywhere at once to do everything all at the same time.
Grohl is not only still touring the World with Foo Fighters, but he is also working on a documentary about bthe fabled and now defunkt Sound City Studios in Los Angeles. The place where he recorded "Nevermind" with Nirvana, where Rage Against The machine recorded their first album. Fleetwood Mac recorded "Rumours" and the self titled album there. Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers cranked out "Damn The Torpedoes" and Charles Manson recorded some songs there months before his "Family" went on their killing spree in Benedict Canyon. The list is long and impressive. Check it out here. Grohl and many others have said it's a special space that has a certain vibe. Grohl has also proclaimed that Sound City has the best Drum sound anywhere often citing the drum sound on Nirvana's "Smells Like Teen Spirit" as an example. The point where the drums kick in in that song is still pretty powerful. Check out the teaser trailer below:

Grohl is also working on some secret project that has so far involved Stephen Pearcy and Warren DeMartini of Ratt, Kevin Cronin from REO Speedwagon and Corey Taylor form Stone Sour/Slipknot. Apparently Grohl is also using the old equipment from Sound City for the recordings.
As far as this years Grammys I think there were few real musical moments in the show. Where Nicki Minaj's Vatican baiting and Chris Browns auto-tuned lip-syncing were low points, Bruce Springsteen And The E St. Band, Bonnie Raitt and Alicia Keys, Bruno Mars, The Civil Wars, and Glen Campbell provided some musical purity along the lines of what Dave Grohl was talking about before The Grammys cut him off:
