*Halitosis: Oral health condition characterized by consistently odorous breath. Often, identifying the cause of bad breath is the first step toward treating this preventable condition.
This was done on a dare and the damage was actually minimal. I was espousing the virtues of the little loved Anchovies and my friend was said, "Why don't you put them in one of your stupid Grilled Cheese Sandwiches?" After I told him to "eat a bag of d***s" I thought, "Hey! Why the F not?" The lowly anchovies always provokes an extreme reaction. Either pure and hostile hatred or Wide-eyed excitement and relief that someone else actually likes them. I usually reserve the fishy eybrow- like snack for Pizzas, Salads, and practical jokes. This would be a new adventure.
I decided if I was going there, I would go all the way. There would have to be onions. And some kind of sharp, tart cheese to cut the saltiness. I went with Cabot's Spreadable Horseradish Cheddar. If anything, this sandwich would be good for my blood(and terrible for my marriage) I spread both pieces of bread with the cheese and laid the diminutive fish on it's sticky bed, and covered them with a blanket of fresh raw onion.
The first bite was a barrage of saltiness and tiny spiny bones with a finish of horseradish. Sounds heavenly, right? It wasn't bad, it just needed something to cut the salt. Maybe next time I'll add sweet gerkins..if there is a next time for this. It is a great snack with beer. Preferably an ice cold lager or something sweet. Keep a toothbrush and Scope nearby.
This reminds me of the J. Geils classic. Further proof of the unjust oppression of the tasty Anchovies:
