I have never been to Portland, OR. But if it's as weird and goofy as they make it out to be in Portlandia I may have to visit soon. Saturday Night Live cast member Fred Armisen and former Sleater- Kinney and current Wild Flag member Carrie Brownstein created Portlandia through a friendly collaboration called Thunderant. Now in it's third season, Portlandia continues to present the west coast city as the surviving bastion of 1990's hyper liberal, environmentally conscious, anti-establishment attitude. The chemistry between Armisen and Brownstein is more natural than a Vegan Hemp Clothier, and the characters they create are all people, I swear to Ralph Nader, I have met in my travels or might live next to me. Portlandia is a hip sketch comedy show that's not afraid to make fun of Hipsters.(and Hipsters are just begging to be rankled anyway.)
In the interview below, Fred Armisen talks about some of the second season's special guests and the relationship between Drug Addiction and Battlestar Galactica:
Here's the amazingly creepy guest appearance by Jeff Goldblum:
Here's Ultra-Feminist Bookstore owners Candace and Toni with a guest appearance by Steve Buscemi:
This is the charismatic Aliki played by SNL's Jason Sudeikis:
