Smashing Pumpkins fans, here are the details on "The Aeroplane Flies High"

Check out the details on The Aeroplane Flies High from the recent Press release...

As part of the continuing series of reissues of THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' acclaimed catalog via Virgin/UMe, the iconic alternative band is set to release four separate versions, all fully remastered, of their platinum-selling 1996 box set THE AEROPLANE FLIES HIGH: 6-CD +1 DVD; 5-LPs and Deluxe Digital and Standard Digital editions. The CD/DVD, 5-LP version and digital configurations will be released July 23.

The original THE AEROPLANE FLIES HIGH was a five-disc box set that featured expanded versions of singles from their acclaimed 1995 double album MELLON COLLIE & THE INFINITE SADNESS, including "Bullet With Butterfly Wings," "1979," "Zero" "Tonight" and "Thirty-Three." MELLON COLLIE achieved Diamond certification by the RIAA for sales of 10,000,000 discs and digital equivalent per disc (5 million copies of the double album).

These new limited edition box sets of THE AEROPLANE FLIES HIGH feature the original 33 track version—remastered by Bob Ludwig—and expanded to 104 tracks (90 audio and 14 audio-visual) encompassing unreleased demos, alternative versions and live recordings. In addition to expanded versions of Aeroplane's original 5 discs, a 6th disc contains live recordings from the 1996 Mellon Collie tour, while the DVD content is taken from a July, 4 1997, performance in Belfort, France. Included is a 46-page book with liner notes written by David Wild, plus extensive track-by-track notes by The Smashing Pumpkins founder-singer-songwriter-guitarist Billy Corgan—for the original release's 33 tracks. The box set has unique packaging with embossed foil wrap & twinkle stock for jackets. To view the full tracklisting of each box set and DVD, go here: http://www.smashingpumpkins.com/albums/the-aeroplane-flies-high-reissue/

As David Wild writes, "The Aeroplane Flies High is a trip, and perhaps fittingly for Billy Corgan, it was an exciting, exhausting and scary one that reveals a lot about the Smashing Pumpkins at this point in their musical journey."

Notes Corgan in the 46-page book: "What I like about The Aeroplane Flies High is that it's almost the existential backwater of the Mellon Collie album," Corgan says today. "Listening to the music gathered here is a little bit like seeing what goes on behind the walls of Disneyland. I've always been fascinated with places that are very well constructed, and finding out what's really going on just over the fence. You look over that gate and notice that things on the other side are not well painted—or maybe you spot that guy dressed as some character sneaking a smoke on his break. At least for me, the behind the scenes feel heard on The Aeroplane Flies High represents something revealing not found on the main album. In retrospect, it's a nice document of how we arrived at the apex of Mellon Collie—and also what standing on that apex did to us personally."

The Aeroplane Flies High follows 2011's acclaimed reissues of the band's groundbreaking first two albums, Gish (1991) and Siamese Dream (1993), as well as 2012's PISCES ISCARIOT (1994), the band's third album, as well as their fourth album, MELLON COLLIE & THE INFINITE SADNESS (1995). ***See press quotes below about the reissue campaign which has the full support and guidance from THE SMASHING PUMPKINS who've created one of the most acclaimed bodies of work in musical history, selling over 30 million albums. The global catalog reissue campaign will last through 2013; it will encompass all the band's albums and B-sides from 1991-2000, with other release dates to be announced. The pivotal group's many hits defined the alternative music era and continue to resonate on modern rock radio, influencing a whole new generation.

As THE SMASHING PUMPKINS get the fully remastered treatment via these reissues, the band is excited to be moving forward by creating new music. They will soon start recording the follow-up to 2012's acclaimed album OCEANIA (Martha's Music/EMI Label Services/Caroline Distribution). It was created by the band—singer/guitarist BILLY CORGAN, guitarist JEFF SCHROEDER, drummer MIKE BYRNE and bassist NICOLE FIORENTINO—at Corgan's private studio in Chicago as a true album experience for listeners to fully immerse themselves in. It entered the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart at No. 4 and earned the No. 1 spot on the Independent Albums Chart. Marking THE SMASHING PUMPKINS' 7th studio record, it is "an album within an album," part of their 44-song work-in-progress TEARGARDEN BY KALEIDYSCOPE. The band launched their 2013 world tour in Mexico this past March and is heading to Europe and Japan for summer dates through August 11.

Rock Stars BEWARE! The kids are coming for you!

First, there was a 9 year old boy, who took Danny Carey from Tool to school! (Elementary school anyway)

And then there was the 14 year old girl, who made Eddie Van Halen her bitch!

These are 2 examples of great parenting!

Details on the passing of Ray Manzarek, founding member of The Doors.

The Doors announced sad news today via Twitter...

"Ray Manzarek, Founding Member of The Doors, Passes Away at 74

Ray Manzarek, keyboardist and founding member of The Doors, passed away today at 12:31PM PT at the RoMed Clinic in Rosenheim, Germany after a lengthy battle with bile duct cancer. He was 74. At the time of his passing, he was surrounded by his wife Dorothy Manzarek, and his brothers Rick and James Manczarek.

Manzarek is best known for his work with The Doors who formed in 1965 when Manzarek had a chance encounter on Venice Beach with poet Jim Morrison. The Doors went on to become one of the most controversial rock acts of the 1960s, selling more than 100-million albums worldwide, and receiving 19 Gold, 14 Platinum and five multi-Platinum albums in the U.S. alone. "L.A.Woman," "Break On Through to the Other Side," "The End," "Hello, I Love You," and "Light My Fire" were just some of the band's iconic and ground-breaking songs. After Morrison's death in 1971, Manzarek went on to become a best-selling author, and a Grammy-nominated recording artist in his own right. In 2002, he revitalized his touring career with Doors' guitarist and long-time collaborator, Robby Krieger.

"I was deeply saddened to hear about the passing of my friend and bandmate Ray Manzarek today," said Krieger. "I'm just glad to have been able to have played Doors songs with him for the last decade. Ray was a huge part of my life and I will always miss him."

Manzarek is survived by his wife Dorothy, brothers Rick and James Manczarek, son Pablo Manzarek, Pablo's wife Sharmin and their three children Noah, Apollo and Camille. Funeral arrangements are pending. The family asks that their privacy be respected at this difficult time. In lieu of flowers, please make a memoriam donation in Ray Manzarek's name at www.standup2cancer.org"

Paul McCartney details break up of the Beatles, in a comic book!

I had to pass this along to all of my other fellow Beatles fanatics!
According to a recent press release...

“Paul McCartney: Carry that Weight” the new comic book out today.  The comic takes a snapshot of the afternoon Paul McCartney made the final decision to quit the most beloved band of all time, and imagines the thoughts and feelings behind it. The comic is inspired by the famously frank press release that came with his debut solo album and confirmed the end of The Beatles, and the end of his partnership with John Lennon.

“Paul McCartney: Carry that Weight” is written by Richard Elms and art by Orlando Maro.  The new comic features two covers, one by Alberto Pessoa and the other by Graham Hill.

“Only the Beatles themselves will ever really understand what happened at the end, but as a Fan of the Fab Four and their various solo projects, I have spent many an hour imagining those troubled times. Now with 'Carry that weight' I get to present my spin on Paul's feelings at the time, Fed up, tired and in love. This comic is not the truth, it is just a few scenes that could have happened in real life, and have happened in my imagination many times.,” said writer Richard Elms.

To order all the comic books exclusively at Comic Flea Market in print for $3.99 please click here:  http://bit.ly/XKXzyo

Bluewater already released a comic book and graphic novels on the Beatles.  “The Beatle Experience” is a 270-page graphic novel and “Orbit: John Lennon” is a 32-page comic book. Both are available  on Amazon as well as Nook, Kindle & ITunes.
Digital copies will also be available for $1.99. Download the comic to your e-reader from iTunes, Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Kobo, ComiXology, Google Books, DriveThru Comics, Wowio, iVerse, and more.

Trent, please don't call her ever!

Sometimes I see things online, and it scares the hell out of me... This is one of those things. I HAD to share it with you. It's like when someone smells something awful, and they say "Gross... smell this".

As a die hard NIN fan, I really hope that Trent has a sense of humor when it comes to this mash-up of Head Like A Hole, and Call Me Maybe.
I know that he loves it when fans play with his audio tracks, I just hope that this hasn't given him nightmares!

If I have to be subject to this song, I would rather watch this... At least it's got some of our troops, and some cheerleaders!

Volbeat, NIN, and Rob Zombie, OH MY!

It looks like 2013 is going to be a GREAT year for music!

Volbeat
has a new album coming out on April 9th called "Outlaw Gentlemen and Shady Ladies". We should have a new song from them any minute!

NIN announced via
Twitter today that they are "back"! Trent Reznor released a statement saying:

"Nine Inch Nails are touring this year. I was working with Adrian Belew on some musical ideas, which led to some discussion on performing, which led to some beard-scratching, which (many steps later) led to the decision to re-think the idea of what Nine Inch Nails could be, and the idea of playing a show. Calls were made to some friends, lots of new ideas were discussed, and a show was booked - which led to another, which somehow led to a lot of shows.

The band is reinventing itself from scratch and will be comprised of Eric Avery, Adrian Belew, Alessandro Cortini, Josh Eustis, Ilan Rubin, and me. The first shows will begin this summer, followed by a full-on arena tour of the US this fall, and lots of other dates worldwide to follow through 2014. Lots of details and dates to come. See you soon. -TR

I cannot wait for NIN to come back to Boston... But, in the mean time... Trent will be in town with his other project "How To Destroy Angels" on April 27 at the House of Blues.

And finally, Rob Zombie has a new album coming out on April 23rd called "Venemous Rat Regeneration Vendor". The first single is called "Dead City Radio" and you can hear it by clicking

LISTEN to Mistress Carrie's interview with Jason Newsted!

As always, Jason Newsted is NOT at a loss for words. How could you be, when you've lived a life like his. In this interview, Jason talks about his musical history, his inspiration for the new songs, his days in Metallica, and his relationship with his former bandmates. He was also candid talking about his missteps with painkillers, recovering from his injuries, and his new love of painting. Jason Newsted has a true Rock N Roll life story, and he isn't shy about telling it. He is friendly, open, honest, funny at times, and serious at others. His passion and lust for life are evident, and the world is a better place when he is inspired and creating art, in any form.

Thanks for the talk Jason, and I look forward to standing "around the keg" with you!

Details on DEVICE, new music from David Draiman from Disturbed!

DEVICE ANNOUNCE SELF-TITLED DEBUT ALBUM
COLLABORATION FEATURING DAVID DRAIMAN FROM DISTURBED OUT APRIL 9, 2013
January 14, 2013 - Device has announced the release of its self-titled debut album on April 9, 2013 via Warner Bros Records.  Modern hard rock icon David Draiman of Disturbed, co wrote and recorded the album with Geno Lenardo [formerly of Filter].

"It's not metal", Draiman says. "It's influenced by early Industrial rock (I.E. Nine Inch Nails/Ministry) and has a dark electronic vibe. At the same time, these are big, anthemic, and intensely melodic songs. It's futuristic rock."

Upon finishing the writing and recording process, Draiman enlisted Evanescence drummer Will Hunt, and Dope and Rock of Ages guitarist Virus; the three comprise the touring incarnation of Device.

The self-titled album features guest artists like Serj Tankian (System of a Down), Tom Morello (Rage Against the Machine), Geezer Butler (Black Sabbath), Glenn Hughes (Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Black Country Communion), M. Shadows (Avenged Sevenfold) and Lizzy Hale from Halestorm. First single, "“Vilify"” goes to radio February 19th.

What I learned from the new Rolling Stones video...

Well, if the new Rolling Stones video, is any indication of what is going on inside Mick Jaggers mind, it's a scary and perverted place.
No surprise there!

The new song from GRRR!, is called Doom and Gloom and the video... let's just say...
Zombies, puking chicks, boobies, war footage, miniskirts, blood, boobies, chicks roling around in garbage, chicks rolling around in cash, cigarettes, baseball bats, dreadlocks, dirty toilets, boobies, and at the end... Mick turns into a girl!
Enjoy!

Aerosmith LIVE on Commonwealth Ave!

Between 1970-1972 Aerosmith called 1325 Commonwealth Ave home. If the neighborhood didn't know that before, they sure learned that fact today. Thousands of Aerosmith fans stood out in the cold from very early this morning to celebrate the release of Music From Another Dimension, the new album from the "Bad Boys of Boston", which comes out tomorrow. A plaque will be installed on the building, and the bands handprints will be permanently embedded in the sidewalk.

To say Thank You to their adoring, and  loyal fans, the band belted out new and classic songs for free, closing Comm. Ave, and shutting down the Green Line this afternoon! That fact didn't go unnoticed by Steven Tyler, as he introduced "Train Kepta Rollin". Also included in the set, "Walkin The Dog", "Mama Kin", "Lover Alot", "Sweet Emotion", "Walk This Way", and "Oh Yeah".

The event brought out the big guns today, with Bob Kraft, Robert Kraft, Tom Brady, and Gerard Mayo introducing the band on stage!

We've been keeping this whole thing a secret for a couple of weeks, and it was nice to finally be able to talk about it! I hate keeping secrets from you!

The day started at the TD Garden, where I hopped onboard a Duck Boat to ride through the streets of Boston with the band. It was crazy to have hundreds of police blocking traffic for us, as we rode through town. That must be what it feels like to win a championship in this town! I guess that's as close as I'll ever get! Thanks Aerosmith!

The band sounded amazing, and they looked like they were having a blast!

Click here to see a gallery of photos from today, if you were there maybe we caught you with our lenses!

And if you weren't able to join us on Comm. Ave, or you didn't listen to the LIVE broadcast on WAAF, you can watch the video below!

Listen to the NEW Deftones!

My friend Laurie from Warner Brothers just came in to play me the new Deftones song, "Tempest". It's the first single from their  new album  called "Koi No Yokan", which will hit stores on November 13.  The only translation that I could find for the title of the album is this: "Japanese for the sense upon first meeting a person that the two of you are going to fall into love." Not sure if that's right, but I like it!

The radio edit is shorter than this version, but check it out and let me know what you think!

More 'behind the scenes' video from the Aerosmith recording studio!

The guys from Aerosmith have been hard at work on their new album, Music From Another Dimension for what seems like forever. It's their 15th studio album, and the first featuring original material since 2001. There is a lot riding on this album, to say the least. The date was pushed back to November 6, 2012 after the GI Joe movie was postponed until 2013. Aerosmith was supposed to be a huge part of the marketing for the film. The good news is, it gave the Bad Boys from Boston more time to perfect the new music... and that's exactly what they have been doing in the studio. Check out the first 3 episodes of the behind the scenes making of the new album.

Listen to Mistress Carrie's interview with Matt Cameron from Soundgarden

It's a busy day for the Soundgarden guys. Today, we get a taste of what the first new album in 15 years is going to sound like with the release of "Been Away Too Long". It's a fitting song title, considering how long it's really been! They said it would never happen... and yet, they have reunited, recorded an new studio album, been part of the soundtrack of one of the biggest movies in history (The Avengers), and are planning a world tour! I guess it happened after all, you liars! :)

Click here for more info on King Animal, due out on November 13.

Matt has been keeping himself busy during the break up of Soundgarden, with this other band... Pearl Jam. Maybe you've heard of them?

How did the reunion happen? What does the rest of King Animal sound like? Will there be a co-headlining tour, with a Temple of the Dog reunion? Who is Matt's favorite Avenger? How he feels about turning 50? What kind of digs he has? I asked him everything!

Listen to my interview here!

More details on the NEW Soundgarden song and album!

Everyone has been calling, texting, and emailing from all over the world, asking about the new Soundgarden song "Been Away Too Long". Mike Hsu and I had a chance to hear it last week, and once we sent out a few tweets about it... the questions started. Well, we were told that it was coming sometime this week, but that has changed. Bands have to be ready to launch a new song. They need to have it up online for purchase, because they know that once it gets played on the radio, if it's good, you guys will want to buy it right away. And trust me, you'll want to buy this new Soundgarden. Well, I guess the song hasn't been uploaded to all of the online music sites in time to release it this week, so they have delayed the release until next Thursday 9/27. So, until then... here is the press release with all of the details on the album, and a video teaser to hold you over.

SOUNDGARDEN ANNOUNCE NEW STUDIO ALBUM ENTITLED KING ANIMAL

FIRST STUDIO ALBUM IN OVER 15 YEARS DUE OUT NOVEMBER 13TH, 2012 VIA SEVEN FOUR/REPUBLIC RECORDS

Seattle, WA—September 17th, 2012--  Seattle’s Soundgarden will release King Animal,  the band’s first new studio album in over 15 years via Tom Whalley's new record label, a partnership between his Seven Four Entertainment and  Republic Records,  on November 13th, 2012. The album’s first single, “Been Away Too Long” will be available via digital retailers on September 27th. The band co-produced their sixth studio album with longtime Soundgarden friend and producer Adam Kasper (Foo Fighters, Nirvana, Pearl Jam) and recorded at Studio X in Seattle. King Animal was mixed by Joe Barresi (The Melvins, Queens of the Stone Age, Weezer) in Pasadena, California.

With two GRAMMY ® award wins, seven overall nominations and over 21 million records sold worldwide, Soundgarden redefined rock music for a whole generation and had a revolutionary impact on the course of musical history. At the dawn of 2010, the band, Chris Cornell, Matt Cameron, Kim Thayil and Ben Shepherd, announced a new beginning. In the last three years since Soundgarden has reunited, they released their first retrospective, Telephantasm, which was certified platinum, their first live album, Live on I-5, penned the end title song, “Live to Rise,” for the feature film The Avengers which went to No.1 on Modern and Active Rock radio, and headlined sold-out shows and festivals around the worldNow, comes the band’s first collection of new songs since the 1990's.

The writing and recording of the album was a true collaborative effort. Riotous album opener and first single “Been Away Too Long” finds Soundgarden back at it with a double-edged blast of homecoming celebration and urban angst. King Animal can be explosive, as in “Blood On The Valley Floor,” nightmarish (“Worse Dreams”) or wistful (“Halfway There”), leading us through changing sonic landscapes that can embrace both the jazz inflections of “Black Saturday” and the feral rocker “Attrition,” with compelling lyrics by bassist Ben Shepherd. The subject matter is broad - Kim Thayil’s lyrics for “Non-State Actor” are a sharp and cynical take on the powers behind political thrones, while Cornell’s bruised and introspective “Bones of Birds” explores the terrors and vulnerabilities of parenthood.

Soundgarden remain a truly ‘alternative’ band as they embark on the next chapter of their journey, steadfast in their roots with 15 years of growth behind them. King Animal follows the musical evolution of one of the world’s most groundbreaking bands. As the BBC put it, they are “a band beyond lazy labels and genre limits.” This is a long awaited return for both the band and fans alike.

Listen to Mistress Carrie's interview with Marilyn Manson

When you get offered an interview with Marilyn Manson, you take it because you never know what he is going to say! I've interviewed him a few times before, and this time... he was happy, funny, and playful... All words that normally do not describe Marilyn Manson. Maybe it wasn't even him on the phone! I'm pretty sure it was, because he remembers the interview that we did on his tour bus, during Ozzfest. He was with Dita Von Teese at the time, and she was eating take out at the table, while Manson was... well, you'll hear what he was doing in the interview below. Let's just say that at one point Dita scolded him saying "Do you have to show everyone how hairy you are?!?" Yeah, it was that kind of night!

Tonight, we talked about his balls, his taste in women, his adventures at the airport and on planes, his balls again, Rob Zombie, what he eats, his cell phone apps, his new video, his art work, Halloween, and I'm pretty sure his balls came up again before we said goodbye!

Here is the interview, take a listen!

Click here for ticket info for the show in Manchester, NH

This is the painting that I was asking him about, it's called "When I Get Old", I love it!

To see more of his art, click here!

And here is the video for the new song "Slo-Mo-Tion" from the album Born Villain. Watch to the very end, to see the scene on the rooftop that we talk about. He is really lucky, that he didn't get shot by the police!

About The Brussels Affair:

In 1973 the Rolling Stones were banned from entering France, due to run-ins with the law whilst recording Exile On Main St in Villefranche-Sur-Mer. This was a blow to the Stones’ hordes of French fans, who would potentially be excluded from experiencing the Greatest Rock ‘n’ Roll Band In The World on their 1973 European Tour. That October, the band organized a concert in neighbouring Belgium, chartering a train from Paris to take fans and press to Brussels for two now-historic gigs.

Hear tracks from Re-Machined - A Tribute To Deep Purple's Machine Head

You know how much I love a good cover song. Here are the details on Re-Machined from the Eagle Rock Entertainment press release!

"Re-Machined – A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head album to be released on September 25.

This year marks the 40th anniversary of the release of this landmark album and in recognition of the influence of the band, and of Machine Head in particular. Some of rock music’s biggest names have each contributed a version of their favorite track on the album to create Re-Machined – A Tribute To Deep Purple’s Machine Head.

Re-Machined features specially recorded tracks from Jimmy Barnes & Joe Bonamassa, Black Label Society, Chickenfoot, former Deep Purple Mk III member Glenn Hughes with Chad Smith of Red Hot Chili Peppers, Iron Maiden, the “supergroup” Kings Of Chaos (featuring Joe Elliott, Steve Stevens, Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum), Metallica, Carlos Santana & Jacoby Shaddix and Steve Vai.

There are two wildly differing versions of the album’s most famous track “Smoke On The Water”, one from guitar hero Carlos Santana with vocals by Jacoby Shaddix and one from alternative rockers Flaming Lips, and Metallica have contributed their own special take on “When A Blind Man Cries”, a track recorded at the “Machine Head” sessions but originally released as the B-side to “Never Before”.

Iron Maiden’s “Space Truckin’” cover was actually recorded back in 2006. Lead singer Bruce Dickinson explains, “Initially we didn’t think we’d be able to contribute anything due to our touring commitments. Then we remembered ‘Space Truckin’ which we’d recorded as a single B-side during our A Matter Of Life And Death album session, but never used. However now, thanks to Kevin Shirley’s remixing skills, we’re able to include it on Re-Machined"

TRACK LISTING:
1) Smoke On The Water – Carlos Santana & Jacoby Shaddix
2) Highway Star – Chickenfoot
3) Maybe I’m A Leo – Glenn Hughes & Chad Smith
4) Pictures Of Home – Black Label Society
5) Never Before – Kings Of Chaos (Joe Elliott, Steve Stevens, Duff McKagan, Matt Sorum)
6) Smoke On The Water – The Flaming Lips
7) Lazy – Jimmy Barnes with Joe Bonamassa
8) Space Truckin’ – Iron Maiden
9) When A Blind Man Cries – Metallica
10) Highway Star – Glenn Hughes / Steve Vai / Chad Smith

To sample some of the tracks, listen below.

Gotye pays tribute to fan tributes... Does that make sense?

You can say what you want about Gotye's hit song "Somebody That I Used to Know"... Love it, hate it, don't get it... whatever.
But what you have to admit, is that it is a HUGE smash hit song for the otherwise unknown singer.
Just in case you live in a cave, here is the original song for you to check out.

That video has been seen over 299 MILLION times on YouTube. Pretty impressive.
Some of those views, would have to be people learning the song, so they could make their own 'tribute' version and load it up online. Well, Gotye noticed how many versions were floating around online, and he did something cool with them.

He made a fan "tribute" video out of his fan's "tribute" videos... I know, it sounds confusing. Watch it below.

I think it's cool that an artist would pay so much attention to what their fans are doing. Some of those versions are hilarious! HI BARRY!!!!!!!

"Mistress Carrie, there's a guy named Slash here to see you."

Yeah, that's what really happens. Even Slash has to go through security. Yesterday, the halls of the offices here were alive with excitement. It takes a pretty HUGE rock star to get the secretaries and accountants excited, and Slash is the very definition of a rock star!

I fetched him some coffee, (see what I mean? I haven't fetched someone coffee since I was Hill-Man's intern in 1993) and escorted him into our video studio, for an extended interview for the website. He complimented me on my hair, and my Harley riding boots, and I told him that his black leather Converse were the perfect choice for Boston, since they were made here. He tipped me off, that reps from Converse were headed to the HOB later on that night, to hook him up with the latest Chuck T styles...

Before the mics and cameras were turned on, he asked me if I planned to ask him any 'uncomfortable' Axl questions. I told him that I had to bring it up at some point, but that I wouldn't be an asshole about it. I know he's sick of the questions, but on Facebook and Twitter our listeners OVERWHELMINGLY told me to ask about it, so I have to!

We talked about everything... How he likes his coffee, everything in his career, the Hollywood star, the Hall of Fame induction, Guitar Hero, his kids, his autobiography, and all of the amazing people that he has crossed paths with over the years. He had great stories about Lemmy, Ozzy, Joe Perry, Fergie, Quentin Tarantino, and even Betty Betty White!

The first of many videos from this interview is below!

Then it was into the WAAF studio, for the live, on-air interview before he rushed back to sound check for the show. He couldn't have been nicer to everyone in the halls. He's a quiet guy, and you can tell that crowds of people freak him out. I guess after years of screaming fans trying to get a glimpse of you, touch you, talk your ears off, you get to be a little nervous. He had someone watching his back every step, until it was time to 'work'... Then, we were left alone to talk.

Below, you can listen to the on air breaks that we did live.

After the interview, we snapped a few pictures, and right before the first was taken, Slash yelled out "Say Herpes". It was hilarious!
That explains the stupid grin on my face. And just like that... he was gone. Headed to 'work'.

Later on that night, I headed to the House of Blues to watch Slash do what he does best... play live.
I was asked to go up on stage and say a few things. For a guy that doesn't like crowds, I can tell you, that the view from a packed stage, is pretty intimidating, and he is in his element up there. I'm used to sitting by myself in the sometimes stinky WAAF studio.

When Slash hit the stage, it had to have been 150* in there. The place was packed! The band was tight, loud, and awesome. The setlist (that Slash worked on in our studio) was packed with new and old songs alike. GNR classics sounded amazing, and the crowd sang along to every word. Lemmy even showed up to do a song with the band!

Thanks to Slash, for a great day and an awesome night!

Appetite for Destruction turns 25!

Do you remember where you were the first time that you heard Guns 'N' Roses? I do...
I was sitting in my parents basement, watching Headbangers Ball on MTV when the video for Welcome to the Jungle came on. Hearing just 5 seconds of the opening riff, it was obvious to me that Rock music had changed forever!

Guns N' Roses - Welcome to the Jungle

It was loud, and in your face. In 1987 I was really into the 80's hair bands that were all the rage at the time... But GNR was different. They weren't pretty, they weren't polished, they were in your face and if you didn't like it F*CK OFF!

I remember reading about them in Metal Edge magazine, and learning all of their names. I thought maybe these guys are in hiding from the law, because none of them use their real names... Axl, Slash, Izzy, Duff, and Popcorn (Steven Adlers nickname).

Shortly after that night in my parents basement, the stories about GNR and their crazy behavior on and off stage were in every magazine, on MTV news, and it seemed everyone was talking about them. Even the album cover pissed people off, and they had to change it.

My Mom heard about it and said 'That's disgusting"... She still says that about a lot of the things that I do, say, buy, and watch. Some things never change.

I wish that I bought the album on vinyl, and I really wish that I had the original version on vinyl... I bet it's worth a TON of money... But, my first and second copies were on cassette. I think I played the first one so much that I wore out the tape.

For a teenage girl in the New England suburbs, GNR taught me a lot about life... I learned what Mr. Brownstone was referring to. What riding the Nightrain was. How romantic guys could be, "turn around bitch I've got a use for you, besides you ain't got nuthin' better to do, and I'm bored". See? Real life lessons... No wonder my Mom said "That's disgusting", she was right, it was... and it was awesome!

Appetite for Destruction was the best selling debut album of the 80's, and one of the best selling Rock albums of all time. Why? Because it's still loud, and it's still in your face. Other bands have tried to do what GNR did. Hell, even GNR themselves have tried to do what Appetite did, and everyone including themselves have failed. No matter the fueds, lineup changes, solo projects, rehab stints, and future attempts at relaunching the band, GNR will always be 5 pissed off guys, holding up a cracked mirror to the world, saying F*CK OFF.  Like Marilyn Monroe will always be beautiful, GNR will always be badass.

Everyone has their favorite song off of Appetite, and there is always a story that goes along with it. I would have to say (and yes I am aware that my answer is boring) that Welcome to the Jungle is my favorite. Why? Because every time I hear it, I remember being in my parents basement, watching in wonder, unaware of the world, unsure of my own future and what it would bring. A time when everything was in front of me, and the possibilities were endless. I can't believe it was 25 years ago!

What's your favorite song from Appetite, and why?

Pink Floyd releases "The Story of Wish You Were Here"

With all of the 'Wall' talk recently, because of Roger Waters' revolutionary tour coming to Fenway this weekend, I wanted to make sure that we talked about this new release too... According to the record label...

"This program tells the story of the making of this landmark release through new interviews with the band members. Also featured are sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, guest vocalist Roy Harper, front cover burning man Ronnie Rondell and others involved in the creation of the album.

Wish You Were Here , released in September 1975, was the follow up album to the globally successful The Dark Side Of The Moon and is cited by many fans, as well as band members Richard Wright and David Gilmour, as their favorite Pink Floyd album. On release it went straight to Number One in both the UK and the US and topped the charts in many other countries around the world. This program tells the story of the making of this landmark release through new interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason and archive interviews with the late Richard Wright. Also featured are sleeve designer Storm Thorgerson, guest vocalist Roy Harper, front cover burning man Ronnie Rondell and others involved in the creation of the album. In addition, original recording engineer Brian Humphries revisits the master tapes at Abbey Road Studios to illustrate aspects of the songs construction. / Bonus Features:
The Blu-ray contains additional bonus material not featured in the TV broadcast version, including further interviews with Roger Waters, David Gilmour and Nick Mason plus Roger Waters and David Gilmour performing excerpts from the Wish You Were Here album."

“Speak Of The Devil” was filmed at Irvine Meadows, California in 1982. The concert is a perfect snapshot of Ozzy Osbourne’s live performances in the eighties with dramatic staging and masses of energy with a setlist based around his first two solo albums and a few Black Sabbath classics. Ozzy has always been one of heavy metal’s great frontmen and, despite the difficult circumstances, this show captures him at his absolute best.

Kid Rock delivers at the House of Blues, Boston!

You may not like him... You may not like his music... But, one thing is for sure, Kid Rock can put on a show! Without question, Kid Rock and his Twisted Brown Trucker band are one of the BEST live shows out there, PERIOD!

For almost 2 hours, Kid Rock tore through new and old songs, reworking them so that even die hard fans didn't know what was coming up next!

Peter Wolf was introduced as the "Mayor of Boston" and was BOOED until people realized that it wasn't Menino coming out onstage. They ripped through a version of Love Stinks that sent the crowd into overdrive! After the song ended, Kid Rock talked about how much he loved Boston and all of the friends he has here including "Mistress Carrie and everyone at WAAF". It just goes to show how loyal he is to the people that were there BEFORE he was famous!

Tour sponsor Jim Beam and Kid Rock presented a $100,000 check to Operation Homefront   which prompted a USA chant that was louder than anything else that night! "America, love it or get the F*CK OUT"! Kid shouted to the delight of the sold out room! The HUGE American flag in the background and a ripping rendition of Born Free were soon to follow! The military should recruit in the lobby of Kid Rock shows, I'm sure a few people would have enlisted after that!

It's more than just a rock show, there are backup singers with dance moves, a percussionist, a sax player, confetti canons, and more guitars and solos than Van Halen could squeeze into a set! It rocks!

But, my favorite part of the show was the tribute to Kid Rock's former band mate, Joe C during 'Devil Without a Cause'.

There's just something about a crowd of people yelling " I'm 3 foot 5 with a 10 foot DICK" that warms the soul!

Don't miss Kid Rock the next time he's in town, or you will regret it!

Axl bans Slash's image from UK G'n'R shows! What's next?

According to NME, Axl doesn't even want Slash's image inside G'n'R shows. Fans caught wearing Slash gear are being asked to remove it or leave. According to the article "During the band's gig at London's O2 Arena last night (May 31), an NME source noticed that a member of the crowd was bare-chested under his jacket. When asked why, 18-year old James Revell said he was told to remove his top because no one was allowed in wearing a Slash T-shirt."

If you are going to start listing all of the things that should be banned from a GNR show, I have a few to add myself.

Looking like Dick Tracy onstage!

Wearing cornrows!

AND, being 3 f'ing hours late for your set, while your devoted fans wait for your ass!

What else should be banned from G'N'R shows?

Bill Ward announces that he will sit out Black Sabbath shows

Bill Ward released a statement through his website today, that he will sit out the upcoming Black Sabbath shows.

His statement is below...

Tell me what you think? Is is Sabbath without Bill?

"Dear Sabbath Fans and Fellow Musicians,

I sincerely regret to inform you that after a final effort to participate in the upcoming Sabbath shows a failure to agree has continued. At this time I have to inform you that I won’t be playing with Black Sabbath at the Birmingham gig dated May 19th, 2012, nor will I be playing at Download on June 10th, 2012. Further, I will not be playing at Lollapalooza on August 3, 2012.

It is with a very sad heart that I bring you this news. I am sincerely passionate in my desire to play with the band, and I’m very, very sorry that it’s fallen to this. This statement is even more painstaking to write, as I was particularly excited to play alongside Tony Iommi after the recent treatments he underwent. I wanted that to become a reality

To express my thoughts about you, the Sabbath fans, I’m going to speak to you all through an experience my brother James had recently. My brother Jimmy lives in the U.K. When speaking with him a couple of days ago, he told me that an acquaintance had stopped him on the street and confronted him, "is your brother playing Birmingham? What’s going on? I waited in line with my son and paid x amount for the concert tickets."

The man’s son is a young drummer. He’s going to see Sabbath, and he wants to see Bill Ward play drums. Upon hearing this news, I felt horrible. I couldn’t help feeling some resentment towards the failure to reach an agreement, the failure to remember where we came from, the failure to be as brothers, as we once were. To be clear, I’m not blaming the other guys or finding any faults with them. I would think it can’t be easy for them either, but this situation is just really sad. It’s sad that it’s come to this. "This" will surely leave a mark and be unwelcome to the memory. Hopefully "this" will heal and pass in time.

My heart sank when Jimmy told me about this young boy. I know this boy is going to be disappointed, and I don’t know how to amend it, other than to put my arms around the boy and tell him I love him. Sabbath fans have a voice and a face, to me you’re human, you have families and despair. You have ferocity and emotions and graciousness, and at this moment as far as I’m concerned you are also that young boy in England. I don’t know how to amend my part in these failings other than to put my arms around you and say I love you and let you know I’m very, very sorry.

Throughout this process, which began over a year ago, I have had to stand up for myself time and time again. I have had to stand up for myself and in doing so realize my actions indirectly, although unintentionally, are upsetting and hurting a lot of you. I know in my heart I couldn’t have done these concerts by agreeing the terms suggested. I made a solemn vow after the last European and Ozzfest concerts that I would never again enter into what was, in my opinion, a totally unsatisfactory contract. I have to stand for something, and as painful as it is, I’m doing it.

Earlier in April 2012, I’d been asked to participate "minimally" in the Download festival. I believe I’d been offered no more than three songs to play while another drummer presumably played the rest of the show with Black Sabbath. I was not willing to participate in that offer. I was not prepared to watch another drummer play a Sabbath set, while I was to play only three songs.

I found out about the Birmingham gig on Monday, April 30 through the Internet ad. I was taken aback somewhat by the date, and the fact it was Birmingham. Knowing the "signable" contract negotiations were at best in shreds, I was upset by the idea that the band was going to play Birmingham and play it assumedly without me. I had no prior knowledge of the date and location, and I felt totally excluded. We contacted the representative for Black Sabbath to see if something could be worked out. In the meantime my drum crew and I, along with our US endorsers, finished all the necessary planning for a swift departure to the UK. There wasn’t a whole lot to complete; we’d all been on standby more or less since mid-January 2012. The remaining work in the UK was confirmed done by our European and UK endorsers and we were good to go by Friday, May 4 2012. There were two stress points: firstly, getting an agreement in place, and secondly, getting to England in a timely manner. Jetlag time was taken into account as well as drum practice, a drum practice room in the heart of Birmingham, accommodation, and travel arrangements were all in place to meet with any band rehearsals that may have transpired before the Birmingham show. So far everything that had been arranged was on my dime, but we didn’t move ahead without a realistic confirmation.

Communications between the representative and my lawyer continued through the weekend of May 5 finalizing on Wednesday, May 9. The offer we received on May 9 was, "come to the UK, play for free and see how the first show goes." I was tempted. Playing for free would not have been a problem for me, but "seeing how the first show goes" left an element of risk which could have affected Download. My ideal thought was to play in full the Birmingham show, in full Download, and in full Lollapalooza.

I had notified the representative that May 10 was my cutoff day in order to have good lead-in time for England. On the night of May 9 I asked for a brief letter to be sent to the representative asking to find out if we were at an end. On the morning of Thursday, May 10, I received a reply in the affirmative. After consulting with my advisors and crew a decision was made to let go and stop.

I can’t prioritize the Sabbath fans making one show more important than the other. I can’t do that. All of you are important. It’s all the gigs or none at all. I can’t come to Birmingham and "see what happens" knowing there is a risk of not being able to play Download or Lollapalooza. Again, for me, it’s all or nothing. I had to say "no" to Birmingham on the principle of wanting to play all the shows. Saying no to Birmingham is very difficult for me. My family grew up in Birmingham. Black Sabbath grew up in Birmingham. It’s still my hometown and I resent having to arrive at such a difficult choice.

Although the statement was made that, "the door is always open" for me, as explained above, walking through that door is not always as easy as it sounds. There are many complicated issues and unseen and unspoken agendas on hand. I can assure you, my criteria for a "signable" contract is based in mindful principles, respectability, and acknowledgement of my history within the band.

I hold no malice or resentment towards the other band members. I love them; I’m tolerant of them; I’m frustrated with them, as they may be with me. My fight has never been with them. I’ll love them forever. In my opinion, nobody wins this time; the band doesn’t win; the fans for an original lineup don’t win. Nobody wins, nobody. Even the ones who thought they did.

I didn’t want to make this decision, but I have to be honest and transparent. This is the statement I didn’t want to write; it’s the last thing I wanted to do. But, I have written it, and now it can go into the universe.

Since Spring of 2011, I’ve waited patiently and hopefully for a signable contract, you know the rest. I stand for the boy in the U.K., for the coming drum student, for all the drummers, who write their parts out and get stiffed on the publishing, I stand with the Sabbath fans chanting "Bill Ward" and asking "why?" and I stand with Tony and Geezer and Ozzy.

On a final note, even though I’m at an end with the upcoming announced concerts, I will remain with an open mind and a position of willingness to negotiate "signable" terms with Sabbath’s representatives in the future.

Stay strong.
Stay safe.

With all my heart and strength, I love you,
Bill Ward"

Beastie Boys rapper Adam 'MCA' Yauch dies at 47

In 1986, The Beastie Boys released "License to Ill" and changed music forever. In 1986, I was a freshman in High School... and a metal head. I'll be the first to admit that I didn't get the Beastie Boys at first. To me, music was hairspray, lipstick, spandex, guitar solos, and Jack Daniels. What do you want... I was 15! In school, you were what you listened to, and it seemed like all of the 'jocks' liked the Beastie Boys, so I didn't want to. But then something changed. I went to a keg party (yes, I know that I am blowing my role model status by admitting that I drank while underage) and the Beastie Boys came on the radio. Everyone... and I mean everyone was singing along. The Jocks, the metal heads, the preps, the druggies, the nerds, the band geeks, and every other ridiculous clique that exists in High School were all agreeing on one thing... The Beastie Boys!

Over the years, The Beastie Boys reinforced the solid bridge that they had built between music genre's, by releasing hit after hit, and selling out every tour that they went out on. I'll always regret that the Beastie Boys/Rage Against The Machine tour never made it back to Foxboro. That show would have been EPIC! Think about it, Rage Against the Machine probably wouldn't have even existed without the Beastie Boys. Neither would Linkin Park, and countless other artists, who didn't have to be afraid to try and mix styles, because the Beaties proved that it was possible.

They paved the way on MTV, and showed just how powerful music videos could be. MCA organized political rallies and concerts in support of Tibet, and the list of influences goes on and on. 3 guys from NYC, set out in 1979 as a hardcore punk group and ended up bridging Rock and Hip Hop forever.

Last month, the Beastie Boys were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame class of 2012, and I'm just happy that MCA was alive to see it. To see just how much value the music community puts on his, and the other 'Boys' contribution to music as a whole, I can only imagine it was very meaningful to him.

MCA, you like so many before you, have been taken from us WAY too soon. But, your influence and legacy will remain long after we all join you in whatever afterlife exists. Thank you for being on the radio at that keg party when I was 15, and for all of the other great memories that I have with your music as the soundtrack!

This is, and will always be my FAVORITE beastie Boys song!

Reaction to MCA's death was swift and widespread on twitter:

Rest in Peace to a hip hop pioneer - Adam Yauch aka MCA of Beastie Boys.

For more info on MCA, see below.

Featured Audio:

Adam Nathaniel Yauch (August 5, 1964 - May 4, 2012) was a founding member of hip hop trio, the Beastie Boys. He was frequently known by his stage name, MCA, and other pseudonyms such as Nathanial Hörnblowér.
Yauch died on May 4, 2012. He announced in 2009 that he was being treated for cancer, but it is not yet known if his death was a direct result of the cancer.

Yauch was born an only child in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Frances and Noel Yauch, who is a painter and architect. His father was Catholic and his mother was Jewish.[3] In high school, he taught himself to play the bass guitar, and formed Beastie Boys. They played their first show — then still a hardcore punk band in the vein of Reagan Youth — on his 17th birthday, while still attending Edward R. Murrow High School in the Midwood neighborhood of Brooklyn. He attended Bard College for 2 years before dropping out. Two years later, when Yauch was 22, the Beastie Boys, now performing as a hip hop trio, released their first album Licensed to Ill on Def Jam Records.

Is Dave Grohl the new drummer for Cage the Elephant?!? Yup!

Is there ANYTHING that he can't do? He's like a Rock 'N' Roll crime fighter! Waiting in the shadows for a band in distress, and up in the sky appears an illuminated DG light that the mayor of Gotham has lit, meaning that there is a band in need of  a KICK ASS drummer... NOW!

And Dave is off, to save the gig!

According to SPIN:

Cage the Elephant's Jared Champion's appendix burst Monday night. Luckily, Dave Grohl was nearby. The always awesome Foo Fighters leader didn't actually perform surgery on the Kentucky rocker, but he offered to fill in for the drummer at the band's show at Salt Lake City, Utah's Maverick Center (Cage are currently the opening act on the Foos' tour supporting Wasting Light). "He had an ulcer for a couple days, then at 1 A.M. it was just unbearable, so he went to the emergency room," guitarist Lincoln Parish tells SPIN. "He was rushed straight into surgery."

Enter Grohl. "Dave somehow heard what had happened and called our tour manager. He said, 'Hey, so do you think the guys would go for it?' " Parish says. "Our manager was like… 'Um, yeah!!!"

While he currently fronts the Foo Fighters, Grohl has a little experience behind the kit, as you may recall, and he agreed to join Cage the Elephant on the six or seven songs he's most familiar with, including "In One Ear," "Shake Me Down," "Sell Yourself," and "Ain't No Rest for the Wicked." Cage the Elephant kicked off their set with a fill-in sticksman (the monitor engineer for the tour), and then Grohl joined for the last five songs of their set. The crowd, understandably, went berserk when he stormed the stage.

"I had to pinch myself," says Parish. "I turned around and Dave Grohl is playing the drums. It's an amazing, once-in-lifetime experience. Nobody can replace Jared. But… it's Dave fucking Grohl. If you're going to be replaced by anybody, it might as well be the best."

Actually, it's a twice-in-a-lifetime experience: Grohl has agreed to again join the Cage boys for a portion of their set at the Forum in Los Angeles on October 13. It's a move indicative of the two bands' friendship, says Parish. "I've never met a group of more humble musicians," he explains. "We sat down and had dinner with Dave last night. He's like a friend you've had for 20 years. It's like you're talking to your old buddy from high school. The first night of the tour, as soon as we got offstage, Dave had shots of whiskey. Last night he came into the dressing room with moonshine."

The two bands met at KROQ's Weenie Roast in L.A. last June. "Jared ran into him backstage before the show and said, 'Come check us out!' He did. Dave saw the last two songs of our set, and afterwards told [frontman] Matt [Shultz] that we should do some shows together. Two weeks later we got the call offering the opening spot on their tour!"

But what about Jared and that appendix? "He's getting released from the hospital today," says Parish. "He'll stay in Salt Lake tonight and then fly into L.A. tomorrow, when he'll jump back on the bus with us. He'll probably be back onstage by San Diego [on October 17]. He's a trooper."

It's time to fight about the Rock 'n' Roll Hall of Fame nominees.

Here is the list of the nominees, for the Class of 2012!

Ballots will be sent to more than 500 voters, who will select the artists to be inducted at the Rock Hall's 27th annual induction ceremony on April 14th in Cleveland. To be eligible, an artist or band must have released its first single or album at least 25 years prior to the year of nomination.

  • The Beastie Boys, Laura Nyro and Donna Summer are each on the ballot for the third time.
  • Donovan, Red Hot Chili Peppers and War are each making their second appearance on the ballot.
  • The rest are first-timers -- The Cure, Eric B. and Rakim, Guns n' Roses, Heart, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Freddie King, Rufus with Chaka Khan, The Small Faces/The Faces and The Spinners.

What do you think? Who did they miss? Will the Beastie Boys and RHCP finally get in? Will AXL reunite with Slash if GNR get in?

Jane is almost old enough to rent a car!

With Pearl Jam and Nirvana almost old enough to drink, and Metallica old enough to be married, buying a house, and paying off student loans... Jane is almost old enough to rent a car!

Just think, Godsmack and Disturbed are old enough to go through puberty!

Kids grow up so fast these days!

Listen to my interview with Matt Cameron from Soundgarden & Pearl Jam!

Matt Cameron may be the busiest man in music! He was the drummer in Soundgarden, and the band broke up. So, Matt got a job with another legandary band that you may know... Pearl Jam! Then in 2010, Soundgarden announced that they were getting back together. Rather than leave Pearl Jam, Matt is somehow balancing 2 bands, while being married with kids! 2 bands, 2 tours... and lots to talk about! What about a Pearl Jam, Soundgarden tour with Temple of the Dog? Is Pearl Jam playing Fenway Park in September? What clubs did Matt love to play in Boston? When is the new Soundgarden album coming out?

Click below to listen to the interview and find out the answers to those questions and more!

Red Hot Chili Peppers

Here's the press release!

Multi-Platinum, Grammy Award-Winning Band to Release I'm With You, Produced by Rick Rubin, on August 30th on Warner Bros. Records

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - Jun 6, 2011) - Multi-platinum, Grammy Award-winning rock band Red Hot Chili Peppers will release their upcoming tenth studio album, I'm With You, on Warner Bros. Records on August 30th, 2011. Recorded at East West In Los Angeles and Shangri-la in Malibu, CA, I'm With You was produced by Rick Rubin, who has produced the band's previous five albums, 2006's Stadium Arcadium, 2002's By The Way, 1999's Californication, 1995's One Hot Minute, and 1991's Blood Sugar Sex Magik. The album was mixed by Andrew Scheps and Greg Fidelman.

I'm With You is the band's first new album since the two-set Stadium Arcadium, which debuted at Number One in 28 countries around the world, including the U.S. -- their first Number One album on the Los Angeles quartet's home turf. The album spawned three Number One Modern Rock hits: "Dani California" (which spent 14 weeks at No. 1 and is one of three songs in the history of Billboard's Alternative Chart to debut at No. 1), "Tell Me Baby," and "Snow (Hey Oh)." To support Stadium Arcadium, the Chili Peppers played to millions of fans around the world throughout 2007, including sold-out arena tours of Europe and North America, appearances at the Fuji Festival in Japan and Live Earth in London, and headlining slots at Lollapalooza in Chicago, and the Leeds and Reading Festivals in the U.K.

Avenged Sevenfold pays tribute to 'The Rev' in new video!

'So Far Away' is the new single from the A7X album Nightmare. The video debuted today. It's a tribute to their fallen band member Rev. Let me know what you think!

From the press release...

"The video is a raw and emotional tribute to the band’s late drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan and celebrates the long-time friendship the band members have shared since forming Avenged Sevenfold in Huntington Beach, CA, in 1999. The video was directed by Wayne Isham, who has directed videos for such artists as Metallica, Mötley Crüe, Megadeth, and Def Leppard, among many others.

The heartfelt quality of the video is in keeping with the emotional resonance of the song, a very personal goodbye to Sullivan that appears on the band’s gold album Nightmare."

ALL THINGS FOO!

Unless you have been in a coma, you know that the Foo Fighters released their 7th studio album 'Wasting Light' today. They are everywhere! They even took over WAAF today. If you missed it, click here to listen to the 3 part special and hear 2 bonus tracks. An Arcade Fire cover of 'Keep The Car Running'  and the demo for 'Come Alive'!

I checkout their documentary 'Back and Forth' over the weekend. I couldn't believe how candid they were. Very cool! Very few artists are willing to really put themselves out there like that. Dave Grohl is fearless. Check out a clip below.

Tonight, following the band appearence on LATE SHOW with DAVID LETTERMAN (11:35-12:37 ET/PT), the Foos will perform a full on rock show LIVE ON LETTERMAN, straight from the Ed Sullivan Theatre. LIVE ON LETTERMAN will be webcast LIVE (9p EST/6p PST)

They were also on SNL this past weekend. They performed 2 songs ROPE and WALK.

And Dave Grohl even got into the sketches!

And what happens when you WIN the Foo Fighters, and they play in your garage???

Greatest Cover Songs of ALL TIME?

The readers of Rolling Stone are always good for e "Greatest _____ of All Time" list! It seems like there is a new one out every day. Well, since I am the Music Director here at WAAF and that I research and select the Under the Covers songs that we play every weeknight at 10pm, I thought this one was interesting!

Nirvana made the list twice, Jimi Hendrix, White Stripes, Muse, The Beatles, and G'N'R made the list too. But there is no Led Zep?  No Metallica? No Pearl Jam?

Take a look at this list and tell me what YOU think should have been on the list!

What's your favorite cover song of ALL TIME?

Here are a couple of my favorites that didn't make Rolling Stones list.

New Radiohead album 'King of Limbs' to be released on 2/19/2011

According to the NY daily News: "UK rock band Radiohead announced Monday that its newest album, "The King of Limbs," will be released as a digital download on Saturday, Feb 19. The band's website featured a message to fans which readd "Thank You For Waiting" and offered a link where the new album is available for pre-order. The digital version, in MP3 or WAV formats, costs $9 and $14, respectively, and can be "pre-ordered now and downloaded on Saturday" according to the site. Fans of Radiohead's 2007 digital release "In Rainbows," a full-length album that was available for download at whatever price the user decided to pay, may be dissapointed to learn of the new fixed-price system. However, moving away from the digital-only arena, the band is also offering what they have dubbed "the world's first Newspaper Album," which includes the record on one CD as well as two 10" vinyl records. Also packaged with the Newspaper Album is "Many large sheets of artwork" and "625 tiny pieces of artwork" according to the website. Those willing to shell out the $48 for The Newspaper version will also be able to download the digital album in .mp3 format before physical records ship on Monday May 9.  For $53 you can buy the Newspaper Album with "full CD quality uncompressed" WAV file downloads." Are you going to buy King of Limbs? Let me know...

New Foo Fighters album details released!

Here's the press release that came out today with all of the details:

FOO FIGHTERS: WASTING LIGHT TRACKLISTING REVEALED FOR SEVENTH STUDIO ALBUM OUT APRIL 12 ON ROSWELL/RCA

FIRST SINGLE "ROPE" AVAILABLE MARCH 1 FF FANS GIFTED WITH SPECIALLY DEDICATED VALENTINE AT whitelimo.foofighters.com

The title and track listing of Foo Fighters’ upcoming seventh full length studio album has been revealed. Wasting Light will be released April 12 by Roswell/RCA and will consist of the following tracks: Bridge Burning Rope Dear Rosemary White Limo Arlandria These Days Back & Forth A Matter Of Time Miss The Misery I Should Have Known Walk First single "Rope" will be available beginning March 1 both as a digital single and as an instant grat with the iTunes pre-order of Wasting Light. Produced by Butch Vig and mixed by Alan Moulder, Wasting Light was recorded entirely on analog tape in the garage of Grohl’s home in California’s San Fernando Valley. The no computers/no software back to basics approach has resulted in arguably the strongest and most cohesive effort of the band’s 15-year-plus career: From first single “Rope” to the frenetic opener “Bridge Burning” to the beautifully bipolar “These Days” to stunning guest spots from Bob Mould (“Dear Rosemary") and Krist Novoselic ("I Should Have Known"), Wasting Light is a singular triumph: a band that’s headlined arenas, stadiums and festivals the world over stripping itself down to the bare essentials and coming up with a world class band’s finest hour. Concurrent with the album’s release, Exclusive Media Group’s documentary division Spitfire Pictures are producing a feature documentary about the Foo Fighters directed by Academy Award winner James Moll (The Last Days, Running The Sahara).  Co-produced and co-financed by Exclusive Media Group and RCA Records, Moll’s documentary chronicles the entire history of the Foo Fighters, from the cassette demos Grohl recorded during his tenure as Nirvana’s drummer through their ascent to their Grammy-winning, multi-platinum, arena and stadium headlining status as one of the biggest rock bands on the planet.   This chronicling of the Foo Fighters’ triumphs and tragedies  culminates in an in-depth behind the scenes perspective on the making of the new album: A process in which the band pushed itself forward by returning to its roots and recording in Grohl’s garage completely on analog tape.

New Foo Fighters "White Limo"

So the Foo Fighters have their still UNTITLED album set for release on April 12th.

I just heard the first single ROPE, and all of the retro equipment and recording techniques definitley came through in the music. It's got a very Zeppelin feel to it. I really liked it, and I think you will too. We won't have the new song to play until next week. I tried to steal a copy, but they caught me. :(

In the mean time, the Foo's have released a new song and video on you tube. It features Lemmy from Motorhead. This isn't the first single, just something cool to check out until ROPE comes out next week.

Check out White Limo

Foo Fighters to headline Lollapalooza 2011!?!

Here is the article from the Chicago Tribune:

"Eminem, Muse and Foo Fighters will be among the headliners for Lollapalooza when it returns Aug. 5-7 to Grant Park.

Reliable industry sources confirmed the bookings Tuesday. Lollapalooza promoters C3 Presents had no comment, but the Eminem booking is a coup. The hip-hop artist is expected to win his first album-of-the-year prize at next Sunday’s Grammy Awards for his latest album, “Recovery,” the best-selling album of 2010.

The Foo Fighters — fronted by former Nirvana drummer Dave Grohl — are returning with their seventh studio album in April, the band’s first set of new material in nearly four years. Muse will be playing a few festival shows while readying its next album this summer; the U.K. band scored its first major U.S. hit with its 2009 release, “The Resistance.”

Also expected to play Lollapalooza, according to several industry sources: Best Coast, Girl Talk, Crystal Castles and Lykke Li. At least three more headliners will join Eminem, Muse and Foo Fighters. The complete Lollapalooza lineup is expected to be officially released in April. greg@gregkot.com"

All Foo Fighters, all the time!

Is it a surprise to anyone that the upcoming Foo Fighters album seems to be on everyones mind?

The new album (which has no title yet) is due out in March, and there are tons of hints as to what it is going to sound like!

Click HERE to check out the radio tuner the Foo Fighters put up with samples of some of the new songs!

The White Stripes call it quits!

According to their official website, The White Stripes have broken up.

"The White Stripes would like to announce that today, February 2nd, 2011, their band has officially ended and will make no further new recordings or perform live. The reason is not due to artistic differences or lack of wanting to continue, nor any health issues as both Meg and Jack are feeling fine and in good health. It is for a myriad of reasons, but mostly to preserve What is beautiful and special about the band and have it stay that way. Meg and Jack want to thank every one of their fans and admirers for the incredible support they have given throughout the 13 plus years of the White Stripes’ intense and incredible career. Third Man Records will continue to put out unreleased live and studio recordings from The White Stripes in their Vault Subscription record club, as well as through regular channels. Both Meg and Jack hope this decision isn’t met with sorrow by their fans but that it is seen as a positive move done out of respect for the art and music that the band has created. It is also done with the utmost respect to those fans who’ve shared in those creations, with their feelings considered greatly. With that in mind the band have this to say: “The White Stripes do not belong to Meg and Jack anymore. The White Stripes belong to you now and you can do with it whatever you want. The beauty of art and music is that it can last forever if people want it to. Thank you for sharing this experience. Your involvement will never be lost on us and we are truly grateful.” Sincerely, Meg and Jack White The White Stripes"

What do you think? Will they ever get back together? What's your favorite White Stripes song?

American Idol with Steven Tyler??? What do you think?

So, am I the only person that has never watched an episode of American Idol? Judging by the ratings, I just might be! Well, the show is relaunching tonight with 2 new judges... Jennifer Lopez and Aerosmith's own, STEVEN TYLER!

With all of the Aerosmith drama over the last couple of years, with Steven's addiction relapse, the band looking for a new singer, the fighting backstage at Fenway etc... Idol didn't come at a great time. Or did it?

The argument can be made (and has been by Kid Rock) that there is NOTHING Rock 'n' Roll about being a judge on American Idol. It's a glorified karaoke night, but with no egg rolls. But, with the success of some of the artists that have come off of that show like Carrie Underwood, Jennifer Hudson, Chris Daughtry and Kelly Clarkson it's obvious that there is SOME talent on this show.

On the other hand, this could be good for Aerosmith. They could be introduced to an entire new fan base, with Steven Tyler now in millions of homes every week on one of the most popular TV shows in the US. That could help the band set up the new album that they are supposedly working on while American Idol is taping in LA, and could help them sell more concert tickets and downloads of their older music, to this new found fan base.

But, what if it doesn't work? What if no one tunes in? What if they tune in and Steven and J-LO suck? What then? Does it hurt Aerosmith? Does anyone care either way? I guess we'll find out tonight when the new season premieres, won't we? Does this mean that I have to watch it now? I just may have to tune in... UGH! What does that say about me? Do I lose my 'rock credibility' if I watch 'Idol' tonight?

What do you think?

The good thing about this, is that Steven Tyler has been doing tons of press for the show, including this from last night on Jimmy Fallon. Jimmy has been doing these skits with all different types of artists, and they have all been great... Including this one. It's Jimmy with The Roots and Steven Tyler doing 'Walk This Way' RUN DMC style! Enjoy!

Check out the new Dropkick Murphy's song Memorial Day!

According to Rolling Stone:

"The Dropkick Murphys' seventh album Going Out In Style is the story of Cornelius, an Irish immigrant in America. The record begins with the character's raucous Irish wake and then flashes back to the beginning of his story, covering all the major moments in his extraordinary life along the way. That may sound a bit dry, but the music itself is exactly the sort of high-energy sing-along punk fans have come to expect from this long-running Boston band."

It's open to anything...

Best album of the year!

Favorite song of the year (please add studip, drunken memory associated with the song, so we can all laugh at you)

What do you think, should we play it?

OK, I have a question for you... If a member of ROCK royalty does a song with one of the biggest POP stars in the world, should we play it? As WAAF's Music Director, this is something that I'm not sure about. Yes,  we play the Beastie Boys, and Cypress Hill, and House of Pain but those artists and songs have become classic Rock party songs over the years...

But when a guy like Slash does a song with Fergie, and the song ROCKS... Should we play it?

She made a name for herself as a Black Eyed Pea, and then she became 'The Dutchess' for he solo career... But when she's with Slash, she becomes one scary, badass bitch! A woman after my own heart!

Check out this video, and then tell me what you think... Should WAAF play 'Beautiful Dangerous'?

I'm still trying to recover from 48 hours in a rock stars life! It's hard work! Planes, limos, parties, courtside seats, political rallies and Jessica Rabbit. DAMN!

Here's what I can remember!

Kid Rock invited a few radio people from around the country, that have been there "since the beginning", to attend his private Halloween party. I was honored to be included in that group. We've been friends for a very long time. Since the Warped Tour before Devil Without A Cause came out. It's been a crazy ride... more crazy for him than me... But anyway.

I took off from Logan on Friday afternoon around 2pm.

Landed in Detroit around 4...

After battling Downtown Detroit traffic for almost 2 hours, we checked into the hotel, dropped our bags, and headed to the Pistons Game. Kid Rock was being presented with a banner for selling out the arena 21 times! He was also given permanent court side seats!

We were escorted into the Presidents club (very fancy) for drinks and food before the game. Drinks included Kid's very own beer,Badass American Lagar!

We were also given gift bags from the Pistons with t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts etc. I felt a little dirty thinking about putting on a Pistons shirt... I have to be honest! But, they say... "When In Rome" right?

I don't want to hear that I am a traitor! I am a Celtics fan to the CORE!!! I put it on, with the agreement that Kid Rock would sign it, and take a picture, so that we could auction it off for charity! Which he did!

Hopefully we'll raise some money for charity with this!

After all of the American Badass beer and Jim Beam that we could drink, we were escorted COURTSIDE for the game!

These seats don't suck!!!!

After the game (which they lost by 1 point with 2.5 seconds left in the game) we headed back to the hotel... to close down the bar and take in a little local culture!

Kid Rock headed to DC for the Daily Show's Rally to Restore Sanity!

While he was hanging with Jon Stewart and Cheryl Crow, I went shopping and bought this KILLER hat!

Before I knew it, it was time to hit the party! I went dressed as the 'Corpse Bride' in my old wedding dress!

A big change from my wedding day just a couple of years ago huh?

The party was in this HUGE warehouse where the band practices, and where he keeps all of his gear and cars!

I took some car pics for you!

He's got one of the General Lee's from the Dukes of hazard TV show!

And a Ford GT

And this BADASS Firebird!

After I spent the first 30 minutes drinking and checking out his cars, someone went on stage and introduced the Village People! It was Kid Rock (as the cop) and the Twisted Brown Trucker band in costumes!

They wouldn't let me video the performance... But I got some great photos!

Did i forget to mention the 'dancers'???

The band played the entire new album 'Born Free' which is coming out on November 16.

And it's exactly what you would expect! It's got something in there for everybody! Especially if you are a 40 year old guy! Since he turned 40, he wanted to write a song about that, it's called F*ckin' Forty and it's funny!

After the band finished, it was time to party!!!

And we did a lot of that! I think I was dancing!!! And I NEVER DANCE! EVER!

Before long it was time to get in the photo booth!

Then I got some company! (after he finished hanging out with some HOT redhead dressed like Jessica Rabbit! She wasn't bad, she was just drawn that way!)

The next morning I needed something to eat before my flight home!

YUMMY!

48 hours in the life of Kid Rock, and I am still recovering!

He is in Europe for the MTV awards and I am just trying to figure out how he does it!

Best Halloween EVER!

The video is here!!! Check it out!

And check out the new video for Born Free! See the car? Look familiar? :)

I need your help with Halloween!

October is my favorite month of the year... It starts with my Birthday on the 1st, and ends with my favorite 'holiday' HALLOWEEN!

You've known me long enough to know that I LOVE HALLOWEEN! Everything about it is great! Candy, scary music, costumes, skulls and spiders everywhere and there is no pressure of gift giving!

It's the only time of year that I look "normal"! :)

And of course, every November 1, I get asked "What did you go as for Halloween? Why is your hair purple? Have you tried to get it out?" It's like I'm in costume every day!

In years past, I've had some great costumes... Most of them custom made by Angela Zampell at Mode Merr. She is awesome!

But this year, there is an added pressure!!!

I just got invited to Kid Rock's Halloween Party in Detroit! It's a weekend long bash that, I hear, is going to be INSANE!!!

So, what do I do now??? What the hell am I supposed to be? What should I wear?

I have 2 weeks before I take off for Michigan, and I am desperate.!

So, I thought that I would turn to you!!!

I've been Marilyn Monroe (both dead and alive), a skydiver, a librarian (nobody even knew it was me! HA!), a samurai warrior, Medusa, and I've even had people dress as ME!

I was thinking of taking my red wedding dress, and turiing it into a 'Vampire Bride' costume...

Plus, it's a great excuse to wear it again! :)

What do you think??? I need some ideas and I need them FAST! This party is going to be NUTS, and I can only imagine what people are going to be dressing like...

By the way, I am taking a camera and video gear with me... I'll have a full recap of this bash when I get back... IF I get back!

HELP!!!

It's time to shake off the gloves, grab the jersey, and have a good ol' fashioned brawl over the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame nominees list!
