The readers of Rolling Stone are always good for e "Greatest _____ of All Time" list! It seems like there is a new one out every day. Well, since I am the Music Director here at WAAF and that I research and select the Under the Covers songs that we play every weeknight at 10pm, I thought this one was interesting!
Nirvana made the list twice, Jimi Hendrix, White Stripes, Muse, The Beatles, and G'N'R made the list too. But there is no Led Zep? No Metallica? No Pearl Jam?
Everything by Buckcherry.
Land Down Under by Second Skyn
When Doves Cry by Damien Rice
All of Tori Amose's covers
Courage by Sarah Polly

I have two favorite covers...both of Led Zepplin songs...ooohhh I just thought of a third. Dancing Days STP...awesome. P!nk.....Babe I'm Gonna Leave You and (you have to dig deep for this one) Suzie Vinnick Rock n Roll. I know I was supposed to vote last weekend but I went skiing instead!!
I love when bands do covers! It's cool to hear a different spin (pun intended) on a song (who knew kd lang and Steve Miller would have a connection~another obscure one~and her cover of After the Gold Rush is really good as well.)
I met the lighting guy for Gov't Mule and he gave me a disc of them doing Dark Side of the Moon....very cool. Some of the covers on this list I know and a couple were new for me to give a listen too...Thanks!

What about Heart's cover of "Love Reign O'er Me" Saw them live last summer and it was unbelievable. She can still sing her ass off!

Was always a fan of Orgy's "Blue Monday." Rammstein covering, "Stripped" by Depeche Mode is pretty good too.
One cover that should have made the list is NIN's cover of "Physical" by Adam and the Ants.

I Know it's not exactly WAAF material and I'm showing my age a bit here, but some years back, Joe Lynn Turner did a cover of "Vehicle". The original was 1970 by ides of march and Turner ROCKED that bitch!
check it out http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F8lDMHi8sgc

Lets take a washed up wimpy soundtrack song by Olivia Newton John called Hopelessly Devoted and give it a hard rock, kick ass makeover by a woman who can pull it off. Storm Large

When I think of really good cover songs I always think of "Blinded by the Light" by Manfred Mann.
The song was originally done by Springsteen on his first album.
The cover is great because it is a totally different take on the song.
Anyone can copy a song and do it the same way, like Simple Man by Shinedown, but I like when an artist takes a great song and leaves their own mark on it.
