No, this is not an out-take from an Austin Powers movie. This is the real thing baby! I recieved this video from a friend on Facebook. That is actually their hair. Richie Blackmore looks like he's wearing a giant black space helmet. Also, was Vocalist Rod Evans just coming in from his pat-time job as a footman for the Queen's Carriage? Nice pantaloons. Hey it was the 60's and this video shows the hippest and most cutting edge fashion of 1968. Hugh Hefner would not allow any less. He was the epitome of the Contemporary Groovy 60's Gentlemen. Notice the state of the art Hi-Fi Unit built into the wall behind the band. Plus, Hugh wanted to keep in touch with what the "kids" were "Groovin'' On" so he could stay in touch with the young hotties. Whatever you may think of this video, the song is still killer and I'm sure everyone got laid after they were done taping.
Later the band fell apart. I'm guessing over a hairspray dispute. But they later reformed with their most successful line-up which included new vocalist Ian Gillian. They also decided to put personal grooming and hygiene on the back burner so they could concentrate on the music. I like to call it the Pilgrim era thanks to Blackmore's tribute to our New England founders with his awesome buckle hat. Or he was a big fan of the new Mass Pike at the time. But I'm sure they got even more laid after a couple of Gold Albums.
