If it's February, it must be time for a NY Yankee to hold an emotional press conference and admit to using steriods. Giambi sweated a lot more during his...and Andy Petite told the truth...but those are really the only differences between years past and the FRAUD of an event I just watched at Steinbrenner Stadium. They ought to replace the vaunted pinstripes with needles on the uni's down there.
Does Arod really expect us to believe the crap he was spewing today? There is a formula for these mea culpa press events, and he followed it to the "T". First, tell everyone how nervous you are, so we all feel sorry for you. Then, mention how every one of us has made mistakes, since we all can relate to that. Third, talk about how naive and innocent you were when you made said "mistake" and, finally, get emotional when talking about the incredible support you have received from friends, family, fans and teammates. And then, go back to your sport (or your job as a politician) and collect your paycheck. See? Its simple. Except that, in this case, it's not over.
AROID expects us to believe that, as a naive young ballplayer, he took an "over the counter" energy booster from the Dominican Republic and that's why he tested positive. As he was throwing his cousin under the Yankee team bus, explaining that this was all HIS idea, he casually used the disclaimer "here's what I remember". Ah, yes. That covers all bases (pun intended). That is Arod's version of "to the best of my recollection".
We are supposed to believe that his cousin recommended some random, over the counter product from the DR, that he needed to inject in his ass, that he took for six month cycles, for three years...and that it was just a "mistake"? That during those three years he "mistakenly" used Bolle', (as he told us it's called on the "streets" in the Dominican Republic), he put up the best numbers of his career, but he is not really sure that it had any effect? It was, after all, just an "energy booster".
Sorry, Alex. As the saying goes, I was born during a night game...but not last night. You want us to "judge you from this point forward"? Then, be honest. Tell the truth. As the other saying goes, "it will set you free". Until then, you are just another liar who got caught. And, by the way, if you don't think every one of those 200 reporters left that room and is heading out, with cash, to prove you aren't telling the truth, then you truly are a "naive young ballplayer". I'm sad to say I am pretty sure we haven't heard the last of this. My gut says Sports Illustrated has reporters on the plane to the Dominican right now....looking for Mr. A-Fraud's cousin.
My favorite part of today was when he got choked up thanking his teammates...you know, the guys that Joe Torre said in his book called him "A-fraud". I counted...he couldn't speak for 39 seconds because he was so "emotional". If his teammates cared so much, where were they all? Petite was there but that is self-explanatory. Save the tears, Alex. You are going to need them for the next couple of apologies.
There is one thing he said that I agree with 100%- "baseball is bigger than Alex Rodriguez." I just wonder if he really believes that one, also.
I caught a few minutes of that self-serving excuse for an "apology" and I think you nailed the whole situation in this blog. Dead on. I certainly hope the press is running off to do some actual investigative journalism on this. After all, none of them have had any experience at it for over a year now. Maybe if they get excited over the investigation into this story, they'll remember what their job as journalists really is.
Hey, maybe if some of these sportswriters do some investigating, they'll start teasing the news reporters for wearing the cheerleading outfit and pom-poms and going "Barry, Barry, he's our man, if he can't screw you, no one can! GooooooOO, O!" Then maybe the press will actually report some news for a change.
Yeah, you're right. Never happen....

Pettite is another Fraud...Don't let his "I used it One Time excuse" let you forget he is a liar and a cheat too. They are all frauds..Baseball fans need to step away and take a look at the game for what it was for the past 15 years...I feel bad for the guys like Dwight Evans,Jim Rice, and Jack Morris, who played the game right and clean and never will get the accolades that Arod or a Pettite will ever receive. Arods Guilty, Pettite is a Fraud, Clemens is a joke..It is too bad, cause the greatest game in the world(sorry Soccer Fags) has taken a hit. Maybe it is time for fans to take there kids fishing,or hit the beach on Cape Cod, or go the Zoo, or take in a Bruins game, instead of dishing out insane prices to watch a bunch of overpaid nitwits get even richer.
Also, why isn't Selig, and Orza taking any crap for this..They both should be fired. As the the old Italians say" Disgratziata!!!" They leak one name out of 103 players...and it happens to be the best player? Are you serious? They ALL should be held accountable..Til Then, I'll be watching the B's til April., Then I'm going fishing...Hit em where it hurts......the wallett

I agree totally! This was suppsoed to be a media session of Q & A but the Yankees were totally in control the entire time. There were no follow ups....Pretty much that means when ARod descends from the question put forth and doesnt even come close to answering it then no one can follow up. Yea, okay,we get it, you are sorry.....you got caught...... but enough saying it and answer the questions. The whole "pitch" for ARod against steroids campaign was a joke too....... the thing that absolutely killed me is that his days in Seattle he admitted to taking Ripped Fuel. He obvisouly took this to better himself in some way and he openly admits to this, even though it has now been pulled from the shelves at GNC. Then from 2001-2003, with Texas he takes this steroid, again, obviously to better himself and to gain an advantage. Then he finally gets to NY, the pressure capital of the world and all of a sudden he stops taking things? Cmon', I dont buy it for a second. I guarentee and wish that soemone would have asked the question what are you taking now? I know he is probably not taking anything banned or illegal but I bet he is still taking some kind of supplement......everyone does. Even in David Ortiz's locker during a post game interview you can see NOXPLODE (a creatine, energy and volumizer) sitting in his locker. Obviously this is not a banned substance but it still something. What "something" is Arod taking now? Even if it a meesley protein shake then it is still something! AROD should not make the Hall of fame and shoud not have his numbers appear anywhere in the books. Better yet, people caught in messing with banned substances at anytime in their career get put into the Hall of Shame....All of their numbers will show, with an asterick and be vsiable to all. You can not deferentiate what numbers are from the time he was using or not so you cant count any of them, plain and simple....Too bad, just like Barry Bonds, he probaly would have made the Hall of fame without the stuff. My opinion for anyone caught using enhancers are ejected and banned from the sport and they forfeit their hugue contracts. Too many people look at playing professional baseball as a right rather then a privilage and they should have that privilage revoked if they are cheating. I bet being that seriuos about the issue would really make a change!!!!
